Maybe your parent wants you to go to therapy. Maybe you want someone to talk to outside of your friends and family.
Often parents, and even friends, don't really understand what teens go through. And there might be good reasons why you can't tell them, or why they can't hear. Still, there might be ways to deal with it that don't suck quite so much.
If you come in, I'll listen to you. I bet you have a pretty good idea of what's going on. And if you talk it out, maybe you'll find that you have some ideas about how to deal with it that aren't so crazy.
I've helped a lot of teens in the Oakland Berkeley area deal with everything from cliques, bullying, and social anxiety to panic attacks, phobias, cutting, eating disorders, and suicidality. Sometimes you know there's something going on, like divorce, stepfamily adjustment, trauma, loss, or bipolar disorder. Sometimes it's not really clear what's causing it - is it ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder)? Family stress? Are your parents just completely insane?
As a male therapist who has worked with a lot of teens, I can help you sort it all out. I will be neutral but honest with you about what I see. I may be able to help you find ways to get others to act differently. At the same time, if I think you are contributing to the problem, I'm going to be straight with you. My goal is to help you get through this situation in a way that's as easy and painless as possible. In the process, I bet you'll realize that you're stronger than you think.
