As adults, we live in a world that expects us to be 'on top of things', and then barrages us with unfamiliar problems. What's more, we are told to take care of it on our own, despite the fact that seeking out support is a key trait of successful, happy people.
If you are overly worried, sad, angry, or not getting what you want in your relationships, it is good that you are exploring therapy. We all have operating principles, often unconscious, that guide our approach to life. These principles help us survive but, when circumstances change, they may no longer serve us well. In therapy, I can help you identify your unspoken assumptions and develop new ones that allow you to live a happier, more successful life.
I have a direct, open style that many people find refreshing. You won't find me 'Um-Hum'-ing a lot. If I have information or a recommendation that I think would benefit you, I will share it. Once you can see clearly what is going on in your life, I can help you find the strength to move through it.
As a psychologist, I have helped many individuals in the Oakland Berkeley area deal successfully with relationship, work, and career issues, with recovery from addiction to alcohol, drugs, and pornography, and with mental health issues such as depression, anger, general anxiety, social anxiety, bipolar disorder, grief, addiction, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), phobias, trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and panic attacks.
A good working relationship between you and your therapist is essential. If you have questions about how we could work together, give me a call at (510) 652-5253 or email me at DrTedObbard@Gmail.com
I look forward to talking with you.
